So yeah, it's been two weeks since the deadline already... and a LOT has happened recently but I want to start this entry on a happy note by thanking everyone who took the time to download and read through our visual novel. It's almost at 200 downloads despite being the de-indexed due to the whole payment processor shitshow going on right now and that's insane to me. Shoutouts to everyone who gave us feedback, I feel like this little project transmitted the energy it was meant to and it gets me pumped to start working on something new.
Anyway, FUCK censorship. get weirder, gayer and more unhinged.
Right, so here's where I tell you all a little bit about my creative process when I wrote Cicuta.
At first I pitched Shiki the idea of writing about cannibalism (because let's be real, if you're a sapphic and a weirdo you probably love some good cannibalism.) , the progression of the story would stay more or less the same but the climax would involve one of the girls eating the other one, we were both on board with the idea but then... Shiki suggested writing something that felt like a more mundane toxic relationship, the kind you can't really escape from, cyclical.
I was IMMEDIATELY sold the second they threw that suggestion my way, so that was the approach I took when writing the script. Like hell, I've been there, lots of us have been stuck with a toxic partner that you can't seem to get away from no matter how hard you try. We didn't want the toxicity of the relationship between the main characters to feel one-sided so they both have some shitty traits even though I know a lot of people will feel more strongly about Hemmy because... yeah, she's a mess.
Hemmy and Rain's backgrounds were very heavily influenced by me doing a Nana rewatch, plus I've been going to a lot of underground shows lately so that's where a big chunk of the inspiration comes from. I also went through something of a writer's block near the end because I wasn't sure about how to wrap the whole thing up (I can't write smut to save my life) but luckily I managed to pull through. Shoutouts to Shiki, my ttrpg group, the tattoo artists at the shop I frequent and all my friends for keeping me sane.
Thanks for reading my ramblings and stay tuned because densen.discharge is all amped up to start work on more projects!!
